Boho-chic fashion is definitely making a ‘huge’ comeback this season. Infused with modern fabric and tailoring, this 70’s style has not only influenced the daily go-to look, but has also found its way into designer dresses.
Boho-chic fashion responds well to the needs of a free-spirited and nature-loving woman. It is ideal for those who want to look beautiful but not at the expense of comfort. Bohemian dresses offer freedom of movement with soft fabrics and flowing cuts, while catching attention with colorful prints and unique details.
Jovani 48903 Long Sleeved Dress
A wide range of Bohemian-inspired Jovani evening dresses are available from that popular fashion designer. They are created in various silhouettes, each of which is designed to show off a woman’s best features while ensuring optimal comfort. Comfort is, after all, the primary reason to wear Bohemian clothes. One of these exquisite creations is Jovani 48903, a two-piece, long-sleeve ensemble in soft lace, accented with a luxurious spread of vibrant floral appliques. Eyelash scallops trim all edges of the crop top, as well as the mermaid-flared skirt. Semi-sheer bell sleeves extend from the Sabrina neckline, and complement the semi-sheer decolletage and back. The full-length skirt tapers smoothly through the thighs, and then flares gracefully to a sweep train. Both top and skirt are secured with concealed zipper closures at the back.
Jovani 50011 with Maxi Skirt
Also featuring a two-piece silhouette is Jovani 50011, which includes a strapless crop top and a floral print maxi skirt. The flounce top is crafted in tiers of scallop-edged lace, creating a fuller look. The full maxi skirt hangs on a slim waistband and takes volume from box pleats. This Maxi dress is something you’d definitely want to wear with a floral headdress and a statement bangle.
Jovani 48922 Off-The-Shoulder Dress
A modern take on the Boho-chic look is showcased in Jovani 48922. This two-piece ensemble features a jersey crop top, with an off-the-shoulder neckline that extends with long bell sleeves. Floral prints and tonal beads lend pizzazz to the classically cut skirt, shaped with princess seams that continue to the flared hem and court train.
Jovani 26510 Short Dress
If you are interested in Jovani cocktail dresses, check out the Jovani 26510, a fitted short dress with long fringe details. Beaded illusion spans its illusion neckline, yoke and long sleeves. A dense stretch of matching crystal beads defines the empire waist of the short dress. The shimmery tassels cascade over a nude lining, creating a sensuous appeal. To further its whimsical charm, pair this cocktail dress with metallic sandals. You may also forego wearing a tiara, and instead don on a side braid or beach waves. For maximum effect, bring on your best smile as soon as you step into the banquet hall!
Amidst the bustle of modern life, one may think we’ve forgotten about peace, love, and flower power. Luckily, a Florida-based artist, Rachel De John, keeps the spirit alive with Peace Owls and Other Lovely Things.“I have always been a fan of the whole peace movement. I know I would have fit in perfectly during that whole ‘60s era, but I actually am very happy to be here now, wanting peace and love to still be the answer” she says. Ms. De John creates colorful paintings, ornaments, mobiles and vases using found and re-purposed objects. “My focus is to reuse materials and turn them from something that could be considered garbage into a painting to hang on a wall and make you smile. Her love of nature and the world’s beauty is a major source of inspiration. Many of her pieces feature a friendly Peace Owl, “who hopes to spread peace, love and smiles.” She lives her philosophy through and through, sharing her eco-friendly lifestyle on her blog, Rachel Is a Dreamer, and hopes to someday pursue her art full-time. “Right now, my Peace Owls are wanting to go on more adventures.” Her philosophy is simple “Spread peace, love, and smiles.” Join this dreamer on her quest for peace. www.etsy.com/shop/RachelLovesPeace
Authors and Vintage Hunters, Bridgett Artise and Jen Karetnick, put together an amazing book on fun and creative ways to rebirth your old vintage treasures. They have a real knack for mixing together fabulous pieces like a vintage Chanel jacket with a flowy Pucci-esque print blouse to create an entirely new look. The book is definitely a source of inspiration. In the back of the book, there is a listing of their favorite thrift stores, so you can go shopping yourself. www.b-artise.com
“This summer I’d love to wear an eco or organic bathing suit, any suggestions?”
You can find great eco swimwear on oneof our favorite websites, PlanetThreads.com. They carry a beautiful earth-friendly swim brand called deux fm. I love their fire red “mystique” eco string bikini made from recycled fabric ends. $82, www.planetthreads.com.
“I’ve heard there are recycled flip-flops but I don’t know where to find them?”
Simple shoes are one of my personal faves of the season. These are made with sustainable hemp uppers, recycled carpet padding and recycled car tires. They are also hand stitched, with less than a thimble of water-based adhesives. Most shoes have 2 shot glasses worth of glue. Now that’s a flop to flip over! $50, www.simpleshoes.com
Shannon South founded reMade on the idea that making new and exciting accessories did not necessarily mean they had to be made of new materials. She has stayed true to her mission by fashioning used leather clothing and scraps into original accessories that give new life to what would have been waste. Using upcycled leathers ensures that each bag is a true original and although its design is structurally alike no two are the same. Each with their own serial number, purchasing a reMade USA piece is a one and only (Shannon will even use your won jacket to add to the eclusivity of the design of your choice). Sonoma, leather jacket scraps inside and out with gold zipper, $450, www.remadeusa.com
