Going green at the New Jersey
Shore.
If you happen to find yourself in Point Pleasant Beach,
New Jersey and need a respite from the blazing sun or a
rainy day, step into Sea & Green for a surefire eco-escape.
Opened in 2008, by Rebecca Biskaduros and her husband Jason
Turton, the space has been lovingly restored to its original
cement walls, 15-foot high concrete barrel ceilings, 100
year-old wood floors and “found” stained-glass windows.
The philosophy at Sea & Green is to “bring environmentally
conscious, beautiful, and unique items to the Jersey Shore”
says Biskaduros. The eclectic space is chock full of everything
under the sun. From upcycled creations by Biskaduros and
her husband Jason, to handpicked local and sustainable items
that represent the store’s vision of green. Some of the
very unique pieces we loved are the driftwood that Biskaduros
turns into decor, or the plastic grocery bags local artist
Michal Sparks upcycles into wall art. Garbage never looked
so good! By supporting local artists, the shop also carries
one-of-akind art, photography, eco-tableware, handmade jewelry
and children’s items. Three featured artists are: Michal
Sparks, David Turton Photography, and Hope Grimes’ Pocka
Booka designs. Sparks creates colorful jewelry, wall art,
mobiles, collages and accessories. Turton offers stunning
local beach and ocean imagery on canvas. Grimes crafts an
adorable collection of children’s clothing from vintage
fabrics. Sea & Green donates 1 percent of quarterly
sales to an environmental or humanitarian charity
and was a recent recipient of The Green America Seal.
